“When you put love out in the world it travels, and it can touch people and reach people in ways that we never even expected.” — Laverne Cox
Today is the last Sunday of June, the original “Gay Pride Day” that has since grown to the current month-long celebration. Many Pride events for 2020 have, unfortunately, been postponed or canceled. We can’t hold big events, but Pride is still needed. For some, especially in this time, it’s needed more than ever.
Pride Month is about so much more than rainbow flags and colorful parades. It is also about recognizing and remembering the struggles that the LGBTQ community has faced throughout history. The Stonewall Riots, which took place in Greenwich Village in New York City in June of 1969, was a launchpad for the Gay Pride Movement setting off protests and demands for equal rights. A year later, the first Gay Pride Parade took place. It is so important to remember the history it is so much more than just parades. We are able to celebrate Pride Month today because of the fight and struggle of all those who came before. It was a prime example of how revolt, revolution and standing up for individual freedom started a movement that changed history.
Whether you identify as LGBTQ or are an ally, everyone can join in the celebration of love. Pride Month is about love, acceptance and being proud of who you are. It is a celebration of the individual, of the freedom to be that individual and to honor your individuality and your right to claim your individual freedom. Love is loud, love is inclusive, love is freedom. SharedEasy honors that freedom, we are committed to an environment of inclusiveness, we are a community made up of individuals and we celebrate the individuality of each and every one of our community members.
SharedEasy is committed to redefining “home,” and we are PROUD to open our doors to so many incredible individuals and to have the freedom to celebrate their uniqueness. We are a diverse community and that makes us strong. We extend a warm welcome to all who enter our doors and call SharedEasy home.
Coliving is a home….where you can be yourself. Today we honor all of those who have sacrificed and fought for that right.
Happy Pride!
