SharedEasy Member Testimonial: We Came for a Month. We Stayed longer. New York Wouldn’t Let Us Leave.

Mica is from Argentina. Thales is a Brazilian model and content creator. This was their first time in New York City, they planned to stay one month and ended up staying little bit longer.

We are not the people who dreamed about New York their whole lives. We did not grow up with posters of the skyline on our walls.

Mica had always been more drawn to nature. Thales was the same. New York was not the plan. It became the plan.

“We came to network. In our field, acting, modeling, content creation, the opportunities in Latin America are real but limited. New York is where things scale. We wanted to see it with our own eyes, understand the industry, make connections, and think seriously about a work visa for the future. We gave ourselves one month.”

One month became forty days.

Why Bushwick

“We ended up in Bushwick, Brooklyn. If you had told us before we arrived that we would end up in Bushwick and not Manhattan, we might have been skeptical. But Bushwick turned out to be exactly right.”

Thales had grown up watching Everybody Hates Chris. Walking through the neighborhood, he kept saying it felt exactly like the series. The brownstones, the streets, the way the blocks feel. There is a specific texture to Bushwick that you recognize if you have seen it in movies and TV, and being there in real life is a little surreal in the best way.

And then there is everything else. A 24-hour store on the corner of the apartment. A full supermarket three blocks away. A bike share station at the other corner. A bus line that covers a good stretch of the city. Two subway stops, one two blocks away, one five blocks away that takes you directly to the airport. They never felt far from anything.

What We Were Looking For

“When we started looking for accommodation, the priorities were clear. We needed to be able to cook. Eating out in New York every day is expensive and, frankly, we do not want to live on fast food. A fully equipped kitchen was not optional for us, it was the first filter.

We also needed a washing machine. When you are staying for a month or more, laundry matters. We wanted somewhere we could actually live, not just sleep.

And we needed somewhere without complicated paperwork. We were coming from Argentina and Brazil, staying for roughly 40 days. The traditional rental process in New York asks for things we simply do not have: US credit history, income verification in dollars, an American guarantor. We needed somewhere that understood that international people exist and that the process could be simpler.

SharedEasy had all of it. No bureaucracy, a real kitchen, washing machine and dryer, and a process that actually worked for two Latin Americans arriving for the first time.”

Living with Eight People (and a Dishwasher)

“When we arrived, there were eight people in the apartment. All men, at the time, except for me [Mica]. We will be honest, I had a moment of pause about that. Eight men, one kitchen, one living space.

The kitchen was spotless. We still cannot fully explain it. Eight people sharing a kitchen, and it was clean every time we walked in. What we learned is that when people are here to work, to explore, to be in the city, they are mostly in their rooms doing those things. The common areas are used and respected, not occupied. Everyone is on their own mission. The coliving is easy because nobody is trying to dominate the shared space.

The dishwasher helped. It sounds like a small thing. It is not. With eight people cooking, a dishwasher is the difference between a clean kitchen and a problem. SharedEasy has one. We were grateful for it.

There were also things included that we had not fully expected. Towels, bed sheets, a weekly clean from a professional cleaner, free coffee replenished regularly. These are details that do not sound significant until you are living abroad and suddenly do not have to think about them. You arrived, you unpacked your bags, and the rest was handled.”

The Terraces

“This apartment has two terraces. The first has some gym equipment left by a previous resident, weights, a setup for working out. Not a full gym, but more than enough if you want to train and do not want to pay for a membership.

The second terrace is higher up. From there, you see Manhattan.

We watched the skyline from that terrace more than once. Standing above Bushwick with the whole Manhattan skyline in front of you, it does something to you. It makes the city feel both enormous and accessible at the same time. We would go up there at night, especially in the first week, and just stand there.

That terrace is not a detail. It is a reason to choose this apartment specifically.”

What New York Did to Us

“We came to New York to network. What we did not expect was what the city itself would do.

New York pushes you. It shows you what is possible in a way that no other city quite does, at least none that we have been to. As an actress, as a model, as content creators, being here makes the gap between where you are and where you want to be feel smaller. Not because it hands you anything, but because the people doing what you want to do are here, in front of you, and you can see that it is real.”

Mica had not planned to fall in love with New York. She came for the professional reasons and fully expected to return home having ticked a box. Instead, she found herself in a city that felt more like a version of herself than she had anticipated. Thales says the same.

We want to come back. If it were only up to us, we would have stayed until the end of the year.

What We Would Tell You

“Stay at least a month. If you are going to make this investment  (the flight, the time, the energy) do not come for a week and think you have seen it. A week in New York is a tourist. A month is something else. Give the city time to show you what it actually is.

Save money before you come. New York is expensive and that is simply true. But if you stay somewhere like SharedEasy, the math changes. You are cooking instead of eating out every day. Your laundry is handled. The things that drain your budget in a hotel or a random sublet, they are included. The accommodation becomes a tool for staying longer, not a reason to leave early.

Come with a plan for what you want to do while you are here. The city will fill your time in every direction if you let it. It is easy to get lost in what is available and miss what you actually came for.

And if you are from Latin America and you are worried about the process, do not let the worry stop you. We were worried too. SharedEasy made it straightforward. We arrived, the room was ready, the kitchen was equipped, and we got to spend our energy on New York instead of on logistics.

Coliving spaces can be found in cities all over the world, but they are particularly popular in New York City. There are many different types of coliving spaces, from small apartments with a few roommates to large co-living communities with hundreds of residents.

  • What amenities are typically included in a co-living space in NYC?

Amenities typically available in coliving spaces include laundry, kitchen, swimming pools, workspaces, access to gyms and other health clubs, leisure areas, and spas. Coliving spaces catering to new parents may offer a playground for the children or access to vetted child care services.

Co-living sounds like an answer to everything you’ve ever asked about homes, neighborhoods, or life as digital nomads. • Is co-living a good idea?

Coliving can be a great choice for someone who wants to move to a big city, save big on a luxury apartment, and keep things simple. However, for someone who wants to live outside a major US city and doesn’t like the idea of sharing their space, it’s not a great choice.

It is also a great fit for those who want to belong to a company of like-minded people and build their social network. It can be very rewarding and enriching to belong to a community of people with the same interests. You get to learn, grow, and develop yourself. You can also build a great working relationship, and potentially snag yourself a mentor or a co-founder.

All the great companies were built by people in the same network! Coliving offers flexibility and helps foster friendships between strangers. Newcomers are sure to find themselves welcomed into the community with open arms.

Coliving is a great way to learn about the cultures of other people and appreciate diversity. Another attraction of coliving is the lifestyle. It is a plus for you if your coliving community is located in a place with excellent nightlife.

In terms of cost, coliving is firmly within the average price range for properties, being that you’re paying for both the house and the service rendered.

  • Does SharedEasy Have an App?

SharedEasy does not have an app at the moment, just an amazing website with ample information and details on each property. Important information includes the number of units, their availability, and the appliances contained in each unit, as well as a map of the place and a tour of the property. There’s something for everyone on the website.

There are coliving spaces all over the United States. SharedEasy offers coliving options in New York and Los Angeles.
